Why we use the CVI at SalesFirst Recruiting
For the last seven years, SalesFirst Recruiting has been using, recommending, and relying upon the Core Values Index to help us pick internal team members and weigh in on our clients’ hires as well. We believe that no matter the job market, it is always crucial for employers to hire the right people to join their team. Here’s what it is and why we like it so much.
What is the Core Values Index (CVI)?
The Core Values Index is a scientifically validated tool that measures an individual's core values, or the innate drives that influence their behavior and decision-making. By understanding an individual's core values, employers can gain insights into what motivates and drives them, and how they're likely to behave in different situations.
The CVI focuses on quantifying an individual’s 4 main drivers:
The drive to get things done. This core value is called the Builder.
The drive to connect with people and the world around us. This core value is called the Merchant.
The drive to gain deeper insight into things. This core value is called the Innovator.
The drive to acquire knowledge. This core value is called the Banker.
Improved Hiring Decisions
By using the CVI in the hiring process, employers can get a much clearer idea of how an individual would react in a particular role, and how they align with the values that are best suited for that role. For example- at SalesFirst Recruiting, we tend to hire professionals with high builder values and a good dose of merchant and innovator values. Professionals with those scores tend to perform extremely well in our system. They get things done. They connect well with others, and they like to understand how the world really works. All signs of an effective recruiter.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion
The CVI may not have been created to be a DEI tool, but that’s how we see it in its purest form. Many organizations are looking for ways to reduce unconscious bias and promote objective decision-making, and for us, it made a significant difference.
SalesFirst Recruiting - and many of its clients - are significantly more likely to hire a candidate who receives a Top Performer Profile score over a someone with a lower score and the right experience. It’s an exemplary method for quantifying fits over how well someone navigates the interview process.
Increased Employee Engagement and Retention
Employees who naturally excel at their job and consistently make decisions aligned with best practices for their role are more likely to remain with the company for an extended period, while delivering high-quality work. We’ve found that by using the CVI to match employees with the right roles, employers can increase employee engagement and reduce turnover.
Enhanced Performance Management
We also like the CVI for performance management- helping managers to better understand the motivations and drivers of their employees. This can enable managers to provide more effective coaching and feedback, and support employees in reaching their full potential.
